If you don’t know what an art fair is, check this out.

And if you have energy after all that walking get ready to party. Because this is the Miami Art Week and all the club, bars and discos are throwing huge events. Everybody is in town for Art Basel! So go get your tickets for this year’s edition coming up this December.

Don’t forget to party…

NADA Art Fair

Just as I have explained during a big, famous art fair, there are smaller ones going on at the same time. In Basel, I went to see LISTE. In Miami I strongly advise you to go to NADA (New Art Dealers Alliance). It is amazing, it showcases smaller, up-and-coming and interesting galleries. It is quite different and gives you a more human-size approach to the artworks. It is also interesting as NADA is a non-profit arts organization, its members are galleries and other professionals.

The Bass Museum

Located next to where the art fair is happening it is a must-see. The Bass is the contemporary art museum of Miami, it presents important artists and usually internationally known. It provides all the great services you can find in a museum. Also if you are not into museums or don’t have that much time, dont worry the space is not as big as the Tate and it wont take you all day to see everything!

Wynwood

If you are into street-art this place is definitely for you! I am not personally a big fan but I got to say this neighborhood is impressive. Murals everywhere and of great quality. So two pieces of advice: go during the day to take amazing shots of art and go during the night to enjoy an awesome energy of partying! Just like any other fun, up-and-coming, night-time place, please be careful when going out. Try not to look too touristy.

Perez Art Museum

Located in a beautiful park looking over the waterfront, this museum has an incredible building designed by famous architects Herzog & de Meuron. Its collection are dedicated to modern and contemporary art. Cross the bridge and spend your day there, visit the museum and enjoy a little picnic while enjoying a great view of the city. Maybe you will see some Manatees ?

And many more…

The ICA – Insitute for contemporary art just opened last year and I am so mad I did not go. I did not have enough time. I also have to visit the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami. So… I have to go back to Miami!

Travel tips

How to get there?

Like I said I traveled from NYC to Miami. I used a very affordable airline called Spirit. Low-cost, small bag, efficient, all I need. Another tip: especially during the art fair it can be cheaper to arrive at Fort Lauderdale airport rather than Miami International. It’s not that far and you can take a shuttle for about 20$ to get to your accommodation.

Where to stay?

For the first few nights I stayed at Miami Hostel located in South Beach. There is an open-air bar right in the entrance, the staff was nice and their building is great. Favorite part: breakfast in the yard under the parasols. Check it out here Miami Hostel .
